Very inventive. I agree with many of your comments, execpt 8-10. I think the OMTR/ADBE deal makes a lot of sense and is something we saw many years ago. Since Adobe is a software company it knows the on prem business and will keep the VS on prem stuff. That said, I went to NTIQ to spin out WT after that deal - which didn't make sense. We know that history.

<a href="#comment-367" rel="nofollow">@Brian Clifton</a>
Hi Brian,
There's a lot of pure speculation in the post. The purposes was more for amusement purposes than predicting the market. In fact, #8 is outright silly and #10 is extremely unlikely.
Regarding shared objects, I agree that till the industry knows how to control them they won't get widely adopted.

Great article/wish list/crystal ball gazing...

#4 - SiteCatalyst adopts Flash cookies, is very contentious. If Adobe went this way they would shoot themselves in the foot and see adoption analytics dropped by any company that cares about end user privacy (isn't that every decent company...?)

Shared Objects are no more reliable as a technology than standard text cookies. The difference is that very few people are aware of Shared Objects or how to manage them. For example, access is outside the browser's control unless you have a Firefox plugin such as Better Privacy.

Of course, that's Abobe's decision. My concern however is that such a move would have a detrimental knock on effect for all web analytics solutions that do not wish to use stealth techniques to track visitors. Then again, may be it could be a positive driver...
